The use of ayahuasca

In the current climate it feels necessary to add and upgrade disclaimers:

Foods to avoid:

It is crucially important to avoid certain foods in combination with ayahuasca. Mono-amine Oxidase Inhibitors in the Ayahuasca Brew (from the Banisteriopsis Caapi) stop Monoamine oxidase enzymes working so that the DMT (from the Psychotria Viridis) is not broken down in the digestive system before it reaches the brain.  A side-effect of this is that the amino acid tyramine is also not broken down properly and this can cause unpleasant symptoms and even be dangerous.  By taking care, these problems can easily be avoided.  For foods to be avoided in conjuction with ayahuasca click here.

Effects:

Sensible people are aware of what is involved and take it in a way that is safe and in circumstances that are right for them. Many of them take small supplemental doses each day to enhance their lives. Many people find that very small regular doses enhance their creativity, effectivenes, intuition, lucidity, general awareness and enthusiasm for life.  The active ingredient is DMT, found in all living things and operating in the brain as a neurotransmitter, taking us to a higher level of functioning and experience.

If you choose to take a large dose we recommend that you be in a beautiful setting with people on the same wavelength whom you love and trust. Large doses may change your sense of reality fundamentally and you may want someone there with you.  It may be better to seek out an experienced ayahasquero for a major experience. Sometimes people feel very little when they take home-brewed ayahuasca but there may still be deeper effects. Very small daily doses seem to have a more predictable effect.
