Left and Right Brain Function

Some research into the functions of the hemispheres of the brain:

The superior function of the right hemisphere of the brain when the left hemisphere is suppressed

Dr Allan Snyder’s work in Australia,  enhancing abilities by suppressing parts of the left hemisphere indicates that the right hemisphere of the brain has superior function to the left and we are only unaware of this most of the time because usually the right hemisphere is dominated by the left.

The loss of ability to see reality when the left hemisphere of the brain is deprived of the influence of the right hemisphere

Right brain damage can leave people oblivious to their impediments

‘Anosognosia is the single largest reason why individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder do not take their medications. This impaired awareness of illness is caused by damage to specific parts of the brain, and affects approximately 50 percent of individuals with schizophrenia and 40 percent of individuals with bipolar disorder. Medications can improve awareness in some patients.’

‘this phenomenon is rarely seen when the left hemisphere is damaged’ [i.e. it almost always happens when the right hemisphere is damaged]

The implications of the dominance of the left hemisphere

‘I’ve come more and more to the conclusion that rather than there being right hemisphere compensation, there is rather release from the ‘tyranny’ of the left hemisphere’
Darold Treffort, probably the world authority on autistic savants

To sum up there is plenty of scientific evidence of the advanced function of the right brain.  There is plenty of evidence of the limited function of the left brain.  It is also well established that the left side of the brain is dominant.  Could this be something to do with the problems we humans seem to have in spite of the immense potential we can sense is there?
